Kelston Roundhill

Kelston Roundhill is a beautiful hillside walk with spectacular views over Bath and Bristol. On a clear day, you might be able to see the Severn bridges, across to Wales, the Wiltshire Downs and the Mendip Hills. You may already know the distinctive shape of Kelston Roundhill, without even knowing it!

Kelston Roundhill is accessible from a number of walking routes, as it lies between Saltford, Lansdown and Weston. There are livestock in some fields, so please make sure your dog is on a lead for these areas. There are now signs that ask dogs to be kept on a lead as sadly some sheep have been killed in the area, so please abide by these rules.

The easiest way Kelston Roundhill by car: From Bristol direction, drive past The Crown Inn and turn into a lane signposted ‘No Through Road’. The lane soon widens out, and there is ample on-road parking.

The official website directions are: ‘Public access to ‘Kelston Clump’ at the top of Kelston Roundhill on foot is via one of three permissive paths. Two lead from the Cotswold Way: one from the south towards Weston and the other to the east towards Prospect Stile. The third runs to Cullimore’s Lane which takes you to Kelston village, the Old Crown pub and the Bath Soft Cheese shop and cafe. They are not rights of way, and they are not bridleways.’

PLEASE NOTE: Kelston Roundhill is accessed by permissive paths, therefore please take all rubbish with you and leave no trace.

There are many different routes to walk to Kelston Roundhill, below are details of just ONE route (see the picture of the map below):

• Park for free at The Shallows Car Park, Saltford, BS31 3EX, this car park isn’t very big, so get there early if possible.
• From the car park, walk past the toilet block and head towards Mead Lane and the Bird In Hand pub.
• From the Bird in Hand car park, walk up the steps to the elevated Bristol and Bath Railway Path, follow the path across the river, after about 100m or so, turn left and walk east until you reach Kelston.
• Once in Kelston, cross the Bath Road and you will see an unmarked lane with a large house on the corner (called Mill Farm Barn). Follow this lane uphill until you reach Coombe Barn Holiday Cottages.
• Continue past Coombe Barn Holiday Cottages, following the track uphill, where the path gets steeper and curves around. Continue along this route.
• When the path reaches a 90 degree left turn, stop at this point and turn off the track to the right, climb over the stile and follow the permissive path across the field where you will be able to see Kelston Clump.
