Apex Park to Burnham Beach

Apex Leisure and Wildlife Park is a 42-acre green space in Highbridge, near Burnham-on-Sea, offering plenty to keep both dogs and humans entertained. The park includes several lakes (two of which are used for fishing), a large children’s play area, a skate park, an outdoor gym and a small dog agility area. There are public toilets and a water refill station near the main car park, and even a bird feed dispensing machine by the entrance.

The main park loop is ideal for a short stroll and takes around 20–30 minutes to walk. If you’d like to extend your walk, keep right after passing the dog agility park to join the Brue Estuary river path. Follow this route towards the sea and, within around 10 minutes, you’ll reach the southern end of Burnham-on-Sea beach.

Please note that dogs are not permitted on Burnham-on-Sea beach between 1 May and 30 September. If you’re visiting outside of these dates and fancy a longer walk, you can continue along the coastline towards the Low Lighthouse, a near three-mile stretch that takes around an hour at a steady pace. You will need to leave the beach briefly for a small section of this route.

Be aware that Burnham Main Beach (between the jetty and the pier) does not allow dogs at any time of year. Signage is clear and easy to follow, and the BARB Beach Guide provides full details.

Paws for thought

The majority of the beach is not open to dogs for the summer months (banned 1st May - 30th September). The stretch between the jetty and the pier does not allow dogs throughout the entire year. Avoid the sinking mud and sand.
