Castle Meadows

Castle Meadows is a wonderful open space on the River Usk in Abergavenny. An easy walk from the town centre and right next to the ruins of the Abergavenny castle.

This 20 hectare riverside meadow is a lovely dog walk, with bordering trees, small copses, streams and ponds. In the summer, when the river is low, dogs can splash about in the River Usk, or in the winter there is a pond if they like getting their paws wet. There are lots of benches to sit and watch the world go by and take in the spectacular views of the Brecon Beacons.

Please be aware that there are cows in the field between July and January.

Castle Meadows is great for a quick walk or a longer circular walking route taking about 40-60 minutes.

There are good paths around large areas of Castle Meadows, so it’s suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs.

There are cows in the meadows between July to January. The meadows can also flood if the Rover Usk has burst its banks.
