Filnore Woods

Filnore Woods is the Community Woodland for Thornbury. It aims to provide a diverse range of habitats for wildlife, to give people a wild place to visit and to provide opportunities for education. It’s a brilliant dog walk and the woodland is well cared for by a community group that works hard to maintain it.

To find Filnore Woods, cross the field at the back of the Thornbury Leisure Centre (where the skateboard park is located), the entrance is just beyond the new allotments. Or, you can also reach the woods across the fields from Midland Way or along the Jubilee Way, which runs up Vilner Lane, through Filnore Woods and on to the A38.

Filnore Woods has a varied terrain, with scrubland, new and ancient woodland and a stream that runs through the middle. The stream does tend to dry up in summer though, so if your pooch wants to splash their paws, come in the winter with a pair of wellies!

Due to the uneven ground and sloping nature of the site, there is no wheelchair access and the site is not suitable for people with mobility problems, but a 4×4 visit might be possible. Contact [email protected] for more details.
