Somerset Monument Circular

A circular 3.2 mile walk along the Cotswold Way and Monarchs Way from just outside Hawkesbury Upton, to Lower Kilcott and back.

Park in the large layby on High Street, between Hillesley and the Somerset Monument (GL9 1BQ), where the Cotswold Way meets the main road.

From the layby, you can start your walk on either the Monarch Way or Cotswold way to walk to Lower Kilcott as they run parallel to each other. Both routes go through fields and woodlands, and the Costwold Way does border a pheasant farm for some of it, (we’ve not had too much problem, it tends to work as a good barrier if Murphy gets the sniff of something! But just worth caution for very chase orientated dogs at the start of the shooting season!)

When you reach a quiet road, walk along a very short bit and then follow the other path back. There are two route options, but they all take you in the same direction! The Cotswold Way is also a bridle path (although riders also tend to like going through the field below too).

Unfortunately, you can not get up to the Somerset Monument but you can walk past it.

Thanks to @murphyplusquinnpup for this walk!
